Hello!
Welcome to my website. My name is Joseph Murphy and I’m an academic and writer based in the UK. I've been researching and writing about environmental issues and sustainable development for over 25 years. My work covers a wide range of issues and topics which I explore using concepts and theories taken from across the social sciences.
My interest in the environment began when I was a teenager and led to related undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Durham and University of Hull. After completing these I worked at various UK universities including Oxford, Leeds, Edinburgh and The Open University. Most recently I was Professor/Chair in Environmental Studies at the University of Glasgow.
In 2017 I began a career break to look after my daughter full-time during her pre- and early primary school years. One outcome of this is that I now have a long list of well developed stories about a green dragon! I have also been developing new research on (i) gender and environment and (ii) new imperialisms and sustainability, which I will be publishing soon.
If you're interested, take a look around.
